gto lost its mature rating for a sex scandal, i think the author of this article i was reading likes the "racy" content (and enjoys mocking lawmakers):

"The industry group revoked the game's M rating, which labeled it appropriate for players 17 or older, and re-filed it under AO for "adults only" -- raising the minimum age to 18, the year at which a delicate teen becomes less susceptible to the harmful influence of computer-generated cartoon sex."

I'd like to know how the United States plans on punishing Dutch hackers for tweaking the game. It's pretty sad that consensual sex without any sort of dangerous kink element is freaking people out so much more than killing people which happens all the time in that game (and many others). Which of these is more terrible to expose children to: murder or consensual sex? But that's a more overarching theme than just video games.

I'm also not getting why they're freaking out at the company. If you need something which rewrites the code to access it, that's a pretty reasonable effort to remove it. A sad and pathetic waste of time and attention.

So dutch hackers tweaked the PS2 version as well, because it's in that version too...?

I didn't say they tweaked it to insert the scene. I said they tweaked it to "access" it. I thought that was clear enough to show that I understood it was on the disk, and that the game's original programmers put it there. Hope this clarifies my intent for you. I think the company has a legitimate point. It sounds like one has to go through some contract breaking gymnastics to get to the scene.

I think it was also stupid of them to put it on there, in our puritanical society, even if the code was (re?)written not to show it. I think that those are molehills beside the mountain of our cultural values saying that less than graphic depictions of sex are a big nono, but graphic depictions of violence are much less significant.

They didn't lie any more than the bush administration has (in fact considerably less so), though they used the same sort of obfuscatory legalese.

Did someone steal their keyboards? Sad...

Maybe it will grow on me though, the last one did.

The whole thing is such a joke. If the animated violence (which is extreme) wasn't enough to merit an "Adults Only" rating, why would a sex scene cause such a problem? Is it porno-level explicit? Somehow, I doubt it.

It's so ridiculous that sex is considered more offensive than violence in this country. Politicians, even ones that I generally like and respect, need to get over it.

Video evidence

iFilm posted the offending mini-game/scene in question.

After seeing the video, I'm even more annoyed. The whole thing is barely more explicit than and R-rated movie. Only the woman is naked and no genitals are shown. Kids are more likely to see more intense stuff if they flip on Cinemax at 1:00am when their parents are sleeping. "God Of War" (one of my favorite console games ever) has a similar mini-game after the completing the first level. The only difference is that the camera pans away during the actual sex act.
